Checking out the competition is a great way to get ideas of how to get your business kickstarted. But what theme are they using exactly?
You can find out which theme a website is using by entering the URL in a theme detector.
There are a few places where you can do this:
If the URL detecting websites can’t pin point your theme, don’t fret. There are other ways to sleuth out a Shopify theme.
You can look for the Shopify theme ID in the source code of the website. It might sound complicated, but there’s no need to feel overwhelmed. We can talk you through it step-by-step.
1. Right click the background of the website you want to investigate. A list of options will appear and you need to select inspect.
2. When the element box appears, press control F and type ‘theme’. This will search the website code for information about the theme. Scroll until you find the section that says Shopify.theme = “name” : the information after the colon is the name of the theme the website is using.
Remember, you can always chat to our Shopify marketing experts if you need any help figuring out a theme. We might be able to make a recommendation that goes above and beyond what you’ve seen in use on other websites.
If you’d like to soldier on alone for now, there’s one more way you can figure out what Shopify theme is that?
Using a Browser Plugin
If you’re using Google Chrome as your browser, you might consider installing an inspection plugin to help you collect information about other eCommerce stores.
This method is really suitable for people who are investigating a number of different websites. If you’re collecting data on multiple websites, using the URL inspector websites might slow you down.
This Shopify Inspector plugin will give you information about the following areas:
- website traffic
- social media
- products and prices
Once you’ve installed the plugin, all you have to do is click the little icon at the top of your Chrome browser to access the information you need. For installation and use instructions, take a look at the Chrome web store (link above).
If that plugin doesn’t take your fancy, try the Commerce Inspector. This one works on all sorts of eCommerce websites - not just Shopify.
